I get so confused when I read fashion blogs. It seems like everyone is talking about the latest designer, but then they go to the store and get it for themselves, and the blog post never mentions the manufacturer. I mean, I know every designer who’s ever worked for me, and yet I see people wearing pants that are literally just like their pants, or shoes that are a little more comfortable than the ones they bought themselves.

I think the confusion comes from a lack of understanding of how fashion is actually about design. I think it’s a mix between the designer and the retailer. If a designer is only interested in making sure she gets to wear the right thing every single time, then the designer will not be interested in making the right people happy. She will be more concerned about making sure she can make a profit. It’s the same with a retailer.

For a designer, profit is the end goal. The designer wants to make sure her piece is the best there is. The retailer wants to make sure the item she sold is the best there is. The designer might want to make sure the items she makes are good enough to create sales in this day and age, but she will still want to make sure she can sell the items she makes to the people she needs to sell to. She will use her best efforts to ensure her pieces sell.

The same goes with the retailers. The retailers want to make sure that the things they sell are the best there is. They want to make sure they sell the best there is and that their customers are happy. The designer will still want to make sure she can make sure her pieces sell. The biggest mistake retailers make is not giving their customers enough information about what they have. That doesn’t mean you can’t make your own decisions.
